1/13/15 – Maria Bermudez to Serve as 1st Latina Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division

(Philadelphia, PA) – Martin Law attorney Maria E. Bermudez has been sworn in as the Chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association after serving as Chair-Elect in 2014. She is now the first Latina woman to lead the group.

The division was established to promote and hone the interests of the bar association’s younger lawyers through special forums for education, networking and community outreach. As chair, she will oversee the direction and administration of those forums, which encompass 2800 members and 30 committees. The Philadelphia Bar Association, founded in 1802, is the oldest association of lawyers in the United States.

Bermudez, who focuses her practice on Social Security and Long-Term Disability is active in a number of professional and cultural organizations. She is currently a Zone 1 Delegate to the Pennsylvania Bar Association House of Delegates, is an associate board member of the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania and also a member of the Minority Bar Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and also a board member of Friends of Farmworkers. In 2013, she was named a “Lawyer on the Fast Track,” by The Legal Intelligencer, the oldest law journal in the United States.
